I hear love, I hear angels above
I hear John Lennon and Linda  Ronstadt
    I hear a new century
I hear the spirituality of Arizona and the dark, satanic mills of  England’s new Jerusalem
    I hear a Phoenix, a Beacon, a Leaf, a Stream
I hear a brand new day, so many things to say
I hear one of the UK’s trail-blazing, boundary pushing lead guitarists
I hear a pure nightingale heaven sent songstress…
I hear 2 souls making magic
    I hear 2 and 2 making 5
    I hear 1 plus 1 making 1
    I hear class
    I hear love

Just finished listening to your album. What a beautiful statement on your union. I love that it is all about you both weaving around each others spirit in gentle balance. The space that you create for one another – Majella’s voice like the arms of the trees and Ted’s guitar the wide sky.

Loved it. Very honest and straightforward without any whistles and bells. There is a fragility to Majella’s voice which works well with Ted’s guitar that communicates perfectly with her (almost talking back). There is a synchronicity to them both. It’s maybe a little Fleetwood Mac or southern rock, but that don’t matter as good music will always cross over.

Lyrics from the heart and soul with such melodic and honest music. Majella, your voice has so many shades and depth, blending so well with Ted’s crisp beautiful guitar. Your music shows the devotion and love you have together. You are very lucky people.

What an amazing album, I loved the soulful tune of the first track ‘Better Together’; the song perfectly illustrates the magical places that Ted and Magella have been to. The guitar is sublime and compliments Magella’s unique voice.
The haunting echoes of ‘She’ again show Magella’s vocal expression and Ted’s fusion of east and west on guitar.
A complex, beautiful album that marries two talents.
    Xxx

Beautiful music! I can feel Majella’s voice and Ted’s guitar flowing from the same soulful heart space. Music born in love and light – warming and illuminating and much needed in this world where so many are in darkness. On a down to earth level…really good songs!

My first reaction to this beautiful album was pride that my daughter and her lovely husband Ted, have created this superb musical work-of-art. Although they are individually gifted musicians, the marriage of Majella’s unforgettable melodic voice and Ted’s very unique guitar style prove exactly what the words of the song and the album relay, they are truly “Better Together” in every way. The lyrics are very soul-searching, the music is totally beautiful and soul-lifting, which makes me truly believe that “If you Believe and it comes from the Heart” then we can all really achieve our goal, whatever it may be. Oodles of love for a job very well done from an extremely proud Mom.

In this first collaboration of 70s rock star, Ted Turner, and emerging talent, Majella, we are treated to multiple songs exploring the couple’s insights into the meaning of love, personal loss, consciousness raising and personal growth.

One commentator has compared the duo with Fleetwood Mac. While Stevie Nicks is one of my favorite singers, a case can be made that Majella has a more full range and more complex variety of tones and emotional expression. All of Majella’s talents are on display right from the first song, “Better Together.” Her voice is pitch perfect, she moves effortlessly between octaves, often within the same phrase, and she bends and stretches notes at will, to great effect. Also, compare the growling low register of “Karmony” with the ethereal effect and range of emotion of “Inside You.” Apparently, Majella can go just about anywhere with her voice.

It would be hard to overstate Ted’s talents as a lead guitarist. In this album, the guitar does not set the structure of most of the songs. For example, in the title track, the guitar dips in and out of the song with clean, paced picking that compliments the singer as if in a conversation with her. Better together, indeed! This style repeats itself throughout the album. There’s a lot for early Wishbone Ash fans to love as Ted picks up the pace in “Dance with Me” and “Instairs” which features a complex lead in Ted’s signature style. No matter how fast he plays, each note is clear and distinctive. The variety of guitar work in the album shows that Ted could play any genre he chose. Listening to “Dance with Me,” you can imagine Ted playing lead in a contemporary country/rock band, while “Karmony” takes us back to the blues roots of rock.

My favorite track, “Karmony,” has Ted laying down a lead in pulsating harmony with the band and Majella. This is a song to raise the volume while going down the freeway. While Majella has a full range, she excels in her lower register; perfect for this bluesy song.

At least for this fan, we can only hope the couple is already back in the studio.

This is one of those albums that gets better the more you listen to it. I don’t want to say “deep” because that sounds pretentious, but there is a lot there. I love it.

Anyone expecting retreads or new takes on Wishbone Ash songs, should probably just listen to the old stuff (which is great) but this is just not the same. That being said, Ted’s blues and r&b roots are still there. Majella’s voice is amazing. Her phrasing reminded me of Chrissie Hynde, but Majella’s voice is better, more expressive. She can really inhabit a melody! I think Majella could sing the phone book and sound good. Those of us who have been fan’s of Ted’s guitar playing will not be disappointed. At first I thought Ted was relegating himself to a strictly 20 feet from stardom role. As I listened more, this is just not so. Ted’s guitar work is the glue and the structure for the album. It’s a new sound, but familiar enough that its roots are recognizable. The theme of the album seems to me to be about finding your truth and making connection with the people in your life. It is sultry, soulful, honest and unafraid all at the same time. I highly recommend this album and look forward to more music from Ted and Majella.

Majella’s voice is magical and brings the poetic lyrics to life. Ted’s incredible guitar riffs are soothing and add another voice to each song.

“New Age Soul” is a perfect description of this album. It is peaceful, and even transcendent. Majella’s voice is amazing while singing these soulful and deeply personal lyrics while Ted’s guitar riffs complete the verses. Very easy to hit replay again and again.

Congratulations to Ted and Majella for their wonderful gift to lovers of music. Better Together offers a collection of songs written and performed by truly accomplished musical artists that beautifully reflect on all our personal journeys. With Majella’s dynamic vocals and flowing keyboards, complemented by Ted’s piercing guitar, the music weaves a sophisticated tapestry of melodies and lyrics that sound better and better with each listen…..music that transcends generations and genres. Several songs have already made it into “My Favorites” playlist. Top of the list, Dance With Me. Awesome work Ted and Majella.

“You locked yourself away in the smallest room you could find, closed yourself away, but the music kept playing in your mind.”

These words, so beautifully performed by Majella, introduce the listener to the album and I dance my way into the sound. Whirling like the dervishes in Rumi’s poetry, my heart takes flight with Majella’s soaring vocals. Like a best friend, she advises, “Don’t give up on who you are.” She’s there with me. She knows what I’ve been through, as she has been through it too. And yet we are not alone. Her voice is made richer by her companions – the piano and the guitar. The lilting melodies from Ted’s guitar remind me of the ‘70s…the Beatles (“Let it Be, “Abbey Road”), The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Wishbone Ash….of course! He’s been there! A prominent member of Wishbone Ash, Ted is a master at making his guitar speak, and when he wants, make his guitar gently weep (as the Beatles aptly put it).

“Dance with me” is a catchy duet between the moon and the sun, poetry and song, yin and yang, and the divine masculine and feminine energies. “We have the chance to be our own dance. We can still be each other’s harmony,” their perfectly blended contrasting harmonies beautifully illustrating the individuality of two entities who come together to become one.

“Instairs” opens softly with piano and guitar. “You do not have the right to eliminate yourself, you do not belong to you, but assume you’re fulfilling your role,” Majella’s voice begins softly, but ascends into a powerful crescendo. There are moments in this song where Majella’s voice changes so drastically, that it feels like someone or something else has conjoined with her to co-create the sound. We speak of the voice as being housed in the body, but Majella’s voice possesses its own body.

“She” is an anthem for every goddess in womankind. Majella’s playful ,“You gotta smile when you sing!” makes me smile as I sing along. The guitar sounds very Arabesque in some parts and Hawaiian in others. I imagine Egyptian and Hawaiian temples with Pelé and Hathor dancing to the chorus, dazzling in their finest adornments. “She’s every girl on the street” – a call for all women to embrace their inner beauty, strength and light.

One of my favorite songs on the album is “I found a place.” There is a resonating truth in the song that I cannot explain in words – just like one can never really explain the depth and complexity of music in mere words. The delicateness of the vocals wrap their arms around me like the loving embrace of a dear departed, reassuring me that they are at peace and so I should be as well. It is time to let go of grief. Heaven is only filled with joy.

There is so much in this album that is about self love and respect. “Truer word said,” “Time to fall away,” “If you believe,” all speak of the journey of self discovery – of hurt and pain, of loss of self, and other (“I was your only son, we’d just begun”), of shedding one’s skin to reveal one’s most vulnerable self (“Love Life”), of making peace with loss (“Karmony”), and the solace that comes with letting go. Ted and Majella remind us that it is only through self love and acceptance that we can learn to love consciously and completely.

This album is Ted and Majella’s debut and speaks of their courage, integrity, friendship, love, emotional growth, healing, and wisdom as individuals and as a couple. The lessons they have learned, they gift to us through their music. What better way to say “thank you” than to receive their gift with gratitude?

NEW AGE SOUL – REMEMBER THIS PHRASE!

Ted Turner is one of my heroes and  Majella is his soul mate.  This album is a metaphor for everything which is complete about Ted and Majella as a couple; their very being, their love, and their art.  To be able to convey your identity in music is a gift, and in the case of “Better Together” it is a gift that must be shared.

If you were an idea, how would I describe you?   “New age soul” is the phrase  chosen by the artists to describe their musical journey.  And indeed, this album is an amazing journey on so many levels; a personal journey, a musical journey, an inspirational journey, and a journey of love.

From the very first notes of the very first track you are transported into musical genius. Trace back Ted Turner’s heritage, for example, and you can see how he influenced Mark Knopfler. Fanciful, you may say, but this is
where musical family trees emerge front and centre.  Ted Turner was one of the original tasty, classy, thoughtful, emotional, heart rending guitarists, one of the iconic world class guitarists emerging out of Post War Britain in
the late sixties – a Britain bursting with creativity and determination.

“What about Majella” I hear you say.  Well, there is a temptation to compare Majella with a multitude of the greatest female singers, but comparisons may be counter-productive here, because she is setting her own
agenda, a new genre even. Majella has a signature voice.

And while you are on this journey, remember that these two musicians are hopelessly in love with each other. That emotion shines through from the first verse and remains with you throughout the album. Get ready to transport yourself into the modern day and this new genre, “New Age Soul”

Better Together is a wonderful album; thank you for giving me and many others around the world almost 50 years of amazing musical enjoyment. Don’t ever stop! What else can I add to what has been written so eloquently by others above? Your album expresses so well who you are, what you believe in, and perhaps where you’re going. I came across this by chance. I’m glad I did because, like a good book, I found it hard to put down.

Without really listening to the lyrics (so only influenced by the music), I played the Better Together YouTube clip to my wife, saying how surprisingly refreshing I found it.

She pressed me for a better adjective and I spontaneously replied “sincere”.

    So thanks for this.

Is that guitar style trending? It immediately makes me think of David Crosby’s latest albums, since “Croz”.

    Take care

I too happened across your music. I was trawling through some Wishbone Ash (saw you guys a number of times in your original lineup) and thought “I wonder what Ted’s doing?”
So Wiki-thingy led me to your marriage to Majella which led me to TEd & Majella and here I am. So glad I’m here. So what are you two waiting for, let’s have you over in The UK. The soul in the music just bring tears to my eyes, makes the hair stand up on my arms and really plays with the emotions. A great album you two. Wishing you both a looooooong happiness.

We have followed Wishbone Ash from the first album up to and including There’s the Rub (Ted unfortunately doesn’t play on that one). I have as of late been communicating with members of Renaissance and Jon Camp the bass player from that group has collaborated with musician, songwriter and producer, Maurice Douglas and have a website under the name of Mojo. I have bought their efforts off of the site and they have a section where both Martin Turner is advertising his effort, Written in the Stars which we bought and very much like. The other album is Ted and Majella, Better Together. Ted has always been a great guitarist with Wishbone Ash but here on Better Together, I hear Teds fine guitar work playing around and complementing Majella’s fine vocals and they are on the same level neither taking over from the other. On Amazon, one of the people writing a description to the album Better Together, describes it as New Age Soul. I would agree with that and go further if I could find a better way to describe it. One solid part of liking this album, is that my wife also really likes it so win win in that category. I need to hear future efforts from Ted and Majella, so will quietly stand by until that happens. Very happy with the Mojo website allowing the albums to be posted there as we got these two albums. Score!

Your new album Divine Timing makes me float, go deep, rise above, hold my ground, speak my truth, be me – that’s what comes to my mind, but words are limiting to what my heart feels when I get carried on a wonderful journey of truth, love and unity. It feels like deepening your love with yourself, others and the world; deepening your insight and wisdom; deepening your connection with Mother Earth; deepening the bond of the collective and feeling unity. The powerful, healing messages in your music made me listen with my heart not my ears. Both of your gifts combined this new album is like an energetic, warm, vibrant synergy of beautiful voice and sound. Music that becomes energy and light, hugging you and calling you for a dance, an action, a shift, a lift. Allow this music to take you on a journey of love, inner wisdom and faith – perfect for a movie! Thank you Majella and Ted for sharing your amazing gift and love with the world!

The harmonies were good, the music of course brilliant as always, lyrics interesting, tracks varied and inventive. These are complex recordings and all the better for it, with some extra magic technicals too. Our reaction to the first hearing was to want to hear them all again, which is what we did; surely a good sign. Well done you guys!

    Harmonious New Age Intelligence.
Ted and Majella Turner’s latest album is just so ethereal and ‘intelligent’- This album resonates with the zeitgeist of our 21st Century aspirations of new age spiritual unity.
Divine Timing is a kaleidoscope of beautiful ‘colour sounds’ that gently transports the listener -in and out of themselves.
We cannot help to stop and stare.
We cannot resist wanting to just be there, with them in their transcendental state of music making.
Ted’s artful bluesy syncopation seems to second guess Majella’s every sweet songbird note. We have to remind ourselves that they planned it that way as we are so easily enchanted and carried off into the nirvana of their careful words and the beauty of the new worlds they conjure.
As musicians they seem to read each-other like open books.
    It’s all being laid open.
    It’s all being explored.
It’s all shared open heartedly with us, the listener.
It is both innocence and experience, captured somehow and woven through sound.
These experienced musicians have given us their hearts. They have taken the time to understand, what it is that we need and want to hear out of these challenging times.
This album is a gift to the world.
    This is next level music.
    This is pure heaven.
    This is Divine Timing.

I love your voices together. If I had to pick my ‘favorites’ they would be ‘Gone Too Far’ and ‘When its Time’. Divine Timing shows what can happen when you bring two great artists in their own right together. You really have created something magical. I will be listening over and over again. Maybe some of your wonderful gypsyesque wild vocal styling will rub off on me Majella! Shades of the magical Siobhan Fahey!
